Sherman “Lee” Hopkins Jr., MSCJ is a Sergeant with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. Lee began his career with the Logan Township Police Department (Gloucester County) in February of 2007. There he spent time in the Patrol Division, Community Policing Unit, and the Detective Bureau. In July of 2014, then Detective Hopkins joined the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office as a detective and was immediately assigned to the Homicide Unit. During his 5 years in Homicide, Lee served as lead investigator and/or trial detective for more than 30 homicides and assisted with many of the more than 200 homicides that occurred within Camden County during that time period.
Also in 2014, Lee worked with the VERA Institute of Justice and the Community Orientated Police Services division of the U.S. Department of Justice to publish an article that was featured in “Police Perspectives: Building Trust in a Diverse Nation” No.3. In 2016, Lee attended one of the briefings at the White House for the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing. Upon his promotion in 2019, Sergeant Hopkins was assigned to the Juvenile Unit as the Unit Commander.
In March of 2021, Lee returned to the Homicide Unit as a duty sergeant. Lee continues to volunteer his time outside of the scope of his investigative duties as an academy instructor and guest lecturer at the Camden County Police Academy, as well as many regional colleges and universities in the fields of Urban Homicide, Homicide and Sudden Death Investigations, Search Warrant Composition, and Cultural Diversity & Implicit Bias.
