Ron Winegar

Ron Winegar retired from Law Enforcement in 2021 after 27 years in the profession, as the Deputy Chief of the Boise Police Department. He served in every rank and in virtually every facet of the agency, including Patrol, Criminal Investigations and Community Outreach. Ron co-founded his department’s Peer Support Team in 2007 and helped over a dozen other first responder agencies in Idaho develop Critical incident Stress Management programs and Peer Support teams as an Approved Instructor for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation’s “Assisting Individuals in Crisis” and “Group Crisis Intervention” courses. He is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, as well as the FBI National Academy (session #264). Ron is a Master Resiliency Instructor for the FBI National Academy Associates in their Comprehensive Officer Resiliency Train-the-Trainer program. Ron holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Boise State University. In retirement, Ron continues to work and serve in a variety of capacities, including as an advisor to Courageous Survival, a non-profit organization in Idaho dedicated to first responder and military veterans’ mental health and wellness. He is a member of the board of directors of both the Idaho Peace Officer Memorial and 911 At Ease, a non-profit organization that helps first responders connect with and pay for mental health resources.
